Students who have successfully completed a B.A. in History from Lakeland University should be able to:
- Demonstrate a knowledge of history and the people, places, ideas, and major events that shaped it.
- Construct evidence-based arguments using a variety of historical sources.
- Communicate ideas clearly and professionally in both written and oral form.

Major Requirements (39-53 semester hours)
For Education* and Non-education Majors
Students must choose one of the following options:
Cooperative Education Option
- At least twenty-three (23) semester hours from the following:
- Six (6) additional semester hours in history (HIS) courses numbered 200 or above
- Six (6) additional semester hours in history (HIS) courses numbered 300 or above
- One of the courses listed below may be used in partial fulfillment of this requirement:
Traditional Option
- Nine (9) additional semester hours in history (HIS) courses numbered 200 or above
- Nine (9) additional semester hours in history (HIS) courses numbered 300 or above
- One of the courses listed below may be used in partial fulfillment of this requirement:
- Three (3) additional semester hours in history (HIS) courses numbered 400 or above (no substitutions)
*Teacher Certification
To qualify for Early Adolescence through Adolescence (grades 6-12) teaching certification in history, a student must complete the courses listed above, the Early Adolescence through Adolescence Professional Sequence , and the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction’s (DPI) statutory requirements.
