				Early Childhood through Middle Childhood Education Certification (grades PK-6) and/or Middle Childhood through Early Adolescence Education Certification (grades 1-8). Students who have successfully completed a minor in English as a Second Language from Lakeland University should be able to: 
	Demonstrate a high degree of fluency in English.Describe the linguistic and paralinguistic features of the English language.Recognize the processes through which languages are acquired in both formal and informal contexts.Identify the developmental, social, political, and cultural contexts of their students’ lives and educational experiences.Explain how the development, social, political, and cultural contexts relate to classroom performance and educational practice.Employ effective curriculum, instruction and assessment practices for English language learners.Explain how the relevant communities of English language learners affect linguistic success.Engage in ongoing professional development, networking, research, and innovation (see Standard 9, Wisconsin Teacher Standards) |  
													| Minor Requirements (21-23 semester hours)
Note:
  *Students enrolled in Lakeland University’s Master of Education (M.Ed.) graduate program may register for these courses for graduate-level credit.Teacher Certification:
 To qualify for either Early Childhood through Middle Childhood (grades PK-6) or Middle Childhood through Early Adolescence (grades 1-8) teaching certification in English as a Second Language, a student must complete the courses listed above, the Early Childhood through Middle Childhood Education Major/Professional Sequence or the Middle Childhood through Early Adolescence Education Major/Professional Sequence, and the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction’s (DPI) statutory requirements. |   Return to: Undergraduate Academic Programs
