An undergraduate degree in psychology will prepare students for careers in human services as well as for graduate school programs in psychology, counseling, social work, or law.

Students who major in Psychology will be able to:

demonstrate familiarity with the major concepts, theoretical perspectives, empirical findings, and historical trends in psychology;
understand and apply basic research methods in psychology, including research design, data analysis, and interpretation;
respect and use critical and creative thinking, skeptical inquiry, and the scientific approach to solve problems related to behavior and mental processes;
understand and apply psychological principles to personal, social, and organizational issues; and
weigh evidence, tolerate ambiguity, act ethically, and reflect other values that are the underpinnings of psychology as a discipline.

Major Requirements (42 semester hours)

PSY 200 - General Psychology
PSY 340 - Experimental Psychology
PSY 463 - History and Systems of Psychology (WI)
MATP 221 - Statistics for Psychology
And the completion of at least one area of emphasis
And the completion of required psychology major electives

Clinical/Counseling Emphasis

Brain and Behavior Emphasis

Required Psychology Major Electives

Complete eighteen (18) additional semester hours of PSY, PSYS, EDUP, or SOCP courses. If the Clinical/Counseling emphasis is chosen, three (3) semester hours must be from the Brain and Behavior emphasis. If the Brain and Behavior emphasis is chosen, three (3) semester hours must be from the Clinical/Counseling emphasis. If both emphases are chosen, six (6) additional semester hours of PSY, PSYS, EDUP, or SOCP courses must be completed.
