Management Information Systems, B.A.

The MIS major at Lakeland appeals to students who are interested in analytics and solving business problems using technology. MIS majors may begin careers in programming, but go on to provide leadership in the areas of applications development, systems analysis and design, data and predictive analytics, and project management.

Students who have successfully completed a B.A. in Management Information Systems from Lakeland University should be able to:

  • Explain the major concepts in the functional areas of accounting, economics, marketing, finance, management, and leadership.
  • Construct and present effective oral and written forms of professional communication.
  • Identify the key legal and ethical issues related to contemporary business conduct.
  • Demonstrate responsible and effective workplace behavior skills and traits in a professional business environment.
  • Demonstrate the ability to develop a computer program using contemporary programming languages.
  • Demonstrate an ability to work effectively individually and in teams, in designing and implementing software systems and effectively manage conflicts, optimize resources and meet deadlines.

Note:


Students completing the Management Information Systems major have the option of pursuing an emphasis to supplement their major coursework. Students wishing to complete an emphasis may select from those identified in the section on School of Business and Entrepreneurship: Emphasis Areas  and must complete all prerequisites to be eligible for coursework in those emphasis areas.
