CN 706A - Multiculturalism in Counseling (1 semester hour)

Semester Hours: 1
This course will provide an overview of cultural diversity and how counselors can provide culturally responsive counseling to the community they serve. This course will focus on awareness of various cultural groups, their success stories, stereotypes, and areas of bias toward these groups. Students will examine their personal cultural values and how they impact the counseling setting. Issues and trends in our society will be used to address the concerns of the counseling setting where multiple cultures are present and interacting within the counseling process. Emphasis is place on demonstrating the multicultural competence required of all successful counselors.

Pre-requisites: Offered to Lakeland alumni that took CN 706 prior to 2010 that would need a 1-credit option for fulfill DSPS’s requirement for licensure.
