MU 606B - Orff Schulwerk Certification Level II (0 semester hours)

In this course, participants will receive instruction in the Basic Orff Schulwerk Level II approach to active music teaching. In Orff Schulwerk classrooms, children begin with what they do instinctively – play! Imitation, experimentation and personal expression occur naturally as students become lifelong musicians and creative problem solvers. Though developed in the mid- 20th century by German composer Carl Orff and his protégé, Gunild Keetman, The Orff approach to teaching remains a model for optimal learning in 21st century classrooms. Building upon skills learned in Orff Schulwerk Level I, students will further study technique and improvisation, analysis and arranging, pedagogy, movement, and recorder, as well as special topics that demonstrate the integration of these various subjects.

Pre-requisites: Completion of MU 605A or MU 605B, earned bachelor’s degree or equivalent music teaching experience plus completion of AOSA approved Orff Schulwerk Level I program and program director approval, or senior-level undergraduate students with a GPA of 3.0 or higher who have completed an AOSA Orff Schulwerk Level I program with program director approval.
