Semester Enrollment Policies


Graduate Enrollment Classification (Any Term)

  • Graduate students achieve full-time status by enrolling in nine (9) or more graduate semester hours during the fall, spring, or summer terms.
  • International students must enroll in a minimum of nine (9) graduate semester hours per term during the fall and spring terms.
    • Enrollment in more than four (4) and fewer than nine (9) semester hours will qualify as one-half time status except for enrollments in culminating experiences listed below:
      • BA 800 - Master’s Thesis (6 semester hours) 
      • CN 767 - Internship I: School Counseling 
      • CN 777 - Internship I: Clinical Mental Health Counseling 
      • CN 787 - Internship I: Higher Education Counseling & Student Affairs 
      • CN 768 - Internship II: School Counseling 
      • CN 778 - Internship II: Clinical Mental Health Counseling 
      • CN 788 - Internship II: Higher Education Counseling & Student Affairs 
      • ED 810 - Master’s Project 
  • Students enrolled in culminating experiences are full-time for the purposes of enrollment status, financial aid, military benefits, and SEVIS classification.

Overload Policy

The following conditions apply to gain approval for an academic overload:

  • Any student must have completed at least one prior semester at Lakeland University.
  • Meet required cumulative GPA minimum:
    • Undergraduate: overall 3.0 GPA
    • Graduate: overall 3.5 GPA
  • Gain written approval from the VPAA to enroll above maximum thresholds.
    • Undergraduate: maximum is twenty-one (21) semester hours
    • Graduate: maximum is twelve (12) semester hours

Catalog Year Requirements

Contingent upon continuous enrollment, students are allowed to complete any degree program offered by Lakeland University on the date of their first enrollment in the university, provided no substantive curricular changes have been made. At times, Lakeland University may sunset specific degree programs with notice to students and identify a deadline date by which the major, minor, emphasis or other credential must be completed in order to be conferred.
