Lakeland offers a major in Sport Management and Leadership and a minor in Sport Management. Students will receive training in leadership, business principles, communication skills, and writing skills as they apply to the sport industry. Students will tailor their program in preparation for various career areas including sport marketing, sport management, administration of athletic programs, coaching, sport psychology, sport communications, and sport/wellness facility management. The Sport Management and Leadership major and Sport Management minor can lead to careers in management and administration of sport programs in colleges, recreation centers, YMCAs, YWCAs, sports sales and marketing, public relations and marketing for sports organizations.
Students who have successfully completed a B.A. in Sport Management and Leadership from Lakeland University should be able to:
- Explain the major concepts in the functional areas of sport management, leadership, sport marketing, and facilities management.
- Construct and present effective oral and written forms of professional communication.
- Identify the key legal and ethical issues related to contemporary sport management conduct.
- Identify guidelines relative to diversity and inclusion in the sport industry.
- Demonstrate content knowledge as it pertains to the sport industry.
- Demonstrate personal characteristics such as motivation, maturity, judgment and adaptability as they pertain to the sport industry.
