The broad field science major is designed with future middle-school and high-school science teachers in mind. This interdepartmental and interdisciplinary degree gives aspiring science teachers a strong background in all the major scientific fields—from physics to biology, chemistry to geology. With its breadth of study, the major enhances the versatility of its students, preparing them to succeed in any type of science classroom.
Students who have successfully completed the professional sequence in Education and a B.A. in Broad Field Science from Lakeland University should be able to:
- Demonstrate proficiency with central concepts, tools of inquiry, and structures of the science disciplines.
- Create learning experiences that make science subject matter meaningful to students.
- Demonstrate proficiency in teaching a broad set of science disciplines to students between the ages of 10-21.
