Hospitality Management

Whenever people travel, they need a temporary place to call home. And the more people travel—across the country or around the globe—the more homes away from home they will need. This shows why hospitality management is such an attractive program of study for students who seek a potentially lucrative career in the hospitality industry.

Sheboygan County, the immediate vicinity around Lakeland University, has become a national destination for tourists, offering premier hotel accommodations, world-class golf courses, and natural scenic beauty. Lakeland’s hospitality management program makes good use of these local assets in the training of its students.

Our hospitality management curriculum is one of the few dedicated programs of its type in the region. Whether one is focusing on the lodging, food service, or golf and tourism industries, hospitality management stands as one of Lakeland’s most immediately practical majors.

Students who have successfully completed a B.A. in Hospitality Management from Lakeland University should be able to:

  • Explain the major concepts in the functional areas of accounting, economics, marketing, finance, management, leadership, and management information systems.
  • Construct and present effective oral and written forms of professional communication.
  • Identify the key legal and ethical issues related to hospitality operations.
  • Demonstrate responsible and effective workplace behavior skills and traits in a professional business environment.
  • Evaluate a variety of outcomes to problems in the hospitality operation.
  • Apply accounting and costing skills to an operation with an end result of profitability.
