EDU 455 - Observation and Student Teaching in Music Education (12 semester hours)

Students have an opportunity to teach classes under the supervision of both University faculty and a cooperating teacher from an area school. Music Education majors will student teach in all areas of their certification. Students with multiple certification may elect to student teach for two semesters. Student teaching is a full-day, full-semester experience, which follows the semester calendar of the cooperating school.

Pre-requisites: The semester prior to student teaching, a student must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above, have been accepted into the Education Program, and have received consent of the Education Program director and the Dean of the School of Humanities and Arts. Completion of the Education and Music Education Professional Sequence required for the certification area, completion of the application process for student teaching, a passing score on the relevant Praxis II content test(s), and successful completion of the piano proficiency exam must be accomplished prior to the student teaching semester. Must be taken concurrently with EDU 470 - Seminar, Observation and Student Teaching (2 semester hours).
