CN 777 - Internship I: Community CounselingSemester Hours: 3 This internship is a one-semester, 300-hour minimum, supervised counseling experience within the context of an approved community placement. The course is designed to build extensively on a student’s practicum experience by involving him/her in all aspects of the role and functioning of a professional counselor in a community context. Interns serve in individual and group counseling sessions with a minimum of 120 hours of direct service with clients involving assessment, intervention, and evaluation. Audio or audio-visual recordings are used to develop skills in conceptualizing cases and selecting and implementing appropriate interventions. The application of ethical and legal issues in counseling is reviewed. The course culminates in an evaluation of the intern’s counseling performance throughout the internship.
Pre-requisites: CN 736 - Counseling Children and Adolescents , CN 738 - Group Therapy , CN 776 - Practicum in Community Counseling , a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0, a “B” or better and recommendation from practicum supervisor and instructor.
Pre- or co-requisites: CN 739 - Career Counseling and Development
