CN 776 - Practicum in Community CounselingSemester Hours: 3 This practicum is a one-semester, 125-hour minimum, supervised counseling experience within the context of an approved community placement. The course is designed to help students integrate and apply the knowledge, skills, and dispositions learned in previous program coursework. Students will both observe and serve in individual and group counseling sessions with a minimum of 40 hours of direct service with actual clients involving assessment, intervention, and evaluation. Audio or audio-visual recordings are used to develop skills in conceptualizing cases and selecting and implementing appropriate interventions. The application of ethical and legal issues in counseling is reviewed. The course culminates in an evaluation of each student’s counseling performance throughout the practicum.
Pre-requisites: CN 716 - Lifespan Development and Counseling: An Integration , CN 728 - Psychometrics and Assessment , and one of the following: CN 736 - Counseling Children and Adolescents or CN 738 - Group Therapy .
