CN 766 - Practicum in School Counseling

Semester Hours: 3
The practicum in school counseling is a one-semester, 125-hour minimum, supervised counseling experience within the context of an approved school placement. The course is designed to help students integrate and apply the knowledge, skills, and dispositions learned in previous program coursework to implement comprehensive, developmental, and collaborative school counseling programs. Students will both observe and serve in individual and group counseling sessions with a minimum of 40 hours of direct service with students involving assessment, intervention, and evaluation. Audio or audio-visual recordings are often used to develop skills in conceptualizing cases and selecting and implementing appropriate interventions. The application of ethical and legal issues in counseling is reviewed. The course culminates in an evaluation of each student’s counseling performance throughout the practicum.
