Payment Options

Payment, Financial Aid and Credit Policies

The cost of tuition, fees, room, and/or board is due and payable to the university in full on the first day of classes for the term the student is enrolled. Domestic students who wish to pay university charges due in increments will be expected to select a payment plan on the Student Accounts page on my.lakeland.edu. Regardless of which type of payment method students choose, students are required to electronically sign a Lakeland University Disclosure Agreement as part of the registration process.  If the student is under 18 years of age, all documents will need to be printed and also signed by their parent or guardian.

Balances owed to the university shall be paid in accordance with the payment plan terms selected. If payment is not received in accordance with the terms of the payment plan, a student may be administratively withdrawn from the university.  Students with unpaid balances will not be allowed to enroll in the following academic term.  Flight students with a deficit balance in their flight account will not be able participate in flight instruction until their account is replenished.

Financial aid will be credited to the student’s account and listed on invoices and statements. Students must apply for institutional, state, federal financial aid, and loans. These aid types can only be credited to a student’s account if all application forms are completed and signed and all required documents received.  Students are responsible to the university for all balances due, including those created by the late or incomplete submission of financial aid application forms. Finance charges may be incurred if these procedures are not completed on time.

The general policies outlined in this section include the types of credit that may be advanced and the deadlines for repayment to the university or other agencies. Students who believe they have grounds for appeal in any area dealing with the billing and payment of costs owed to Lakeland University should address those appeals to the Manager of Student Accounts.

Tuition, Fees, Room and Board Payment Options

The following options are available for payment of tuition, fees, and room and board charges due to the university:

  1. Payment in Full - by the first day of class.
  2. Interest Free Tuition Payment Plan - For a small annual fee, this convenient option allows a student to spread all or part of his/her annual educational expenses over eight to ten monthly payments without any interest charges. Information on this plan is available from Tuition Management Service (TMS) at 888-713-7234 or at www.afford.com.
  3. Lakeland University Payment Plan - This installment plan allows a student to split their charges over three payment dates. Information regarding this plan is available on the Student Accounts page on my.lakeland and from the Student Accounts Office. Finance charges of 1.5% per month will apply on balances thirty days past due.
  4. PLUS Loan - This federally-sponsored loan program allows parents to borrow money for their child’s educational costs. Information is available in the Office of Financial Aid and through Lakeland University’s website.
  5. Alternative Loans/Bank Sponsored Loans - The student borrower often needs a co-signer. Information is available in the Office of Financial Aid or through Lakeland University’s website.

Unpaid account balances may result in administrative withdrawal from the University and will result in the inability to register for upcoming terms.  Student account balances must be paid in full prior to the start of a subsequent semester.  Any student incurring financial difficulties is encouraged to meet with Lakeland University’s financial aid office or student accounts office.

International students are required to have their tuition, fees, room and board paid in full by the first day of the term.

Book Charges

Credit memos charged to a student’s Lakeland University account for purchase or rental of textbooks at the Lakeland Campus Shop will be available approximately 30 days prior to the beginning of the term if there is an anticipated credit balance in the student’s account. The book credit can be printed from the Student Accounts page on my.lakeland.edu.  Students with funding from outside sources need to contact the Manager of Student Accounts to have the outside funding applied to their student account.

Miscellaneous Charges and Balances

Fines and other miscellaneous charges shall be paid within 30 days of date incurred.  All account balances must be paid in full before students will be eligible to enroll in classes in the following term.

Health Insurance Policy

Lakeland University requires all traditional undergraduate program students to carry health insurance while attending Lakeland.  Individual or parental plans will qualify for this insurance requirement.  It is strongly recommended that students and families work with their insurance provider to assure appropriate coverage, especially when students are attending from out of state. Students who do not provide evidence of insurance by the start of each term will automatically be enrolled in the zero-deductible WPS Student Health Insurance plan and applicable fees added to their student account.  Information regarding WPS Student Health Insurance plans may be obtained from my.lakeland.edu. Students with additional questions are encouraged to contact the Student Employment Manager.
