Financial Aid and Scholarships

Lakeland University participates in federal and state student financial aid programs for which its students are eligible. Students who are uncertain about their eligibility for any federal or state aid program should contact the Office of Financial Aid. The award of federal and state financial aid funds is contingent upon timely completion of all relevant application and financial status forms including the submission of student and parental income tax documents from the most recent tax year.

In addition to federal and state aid, the university sponsors a number of its own programs which are coordinated with and are used to supplement the federal and state programs. A student’s individual financial aid from all financial aid grant and scholarship programs administered by the university (excluding the Talent Incentive Program (TIP) will not exceed the cost of tuition. Financial aid and scholarship programs administered by the university include:

Sources of Financial Aid

Federal Government

• Pell Grant ($596 to $5,920) Award is based on need.
• Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG) ($200 to $2,500) Award is based on need.
• Federal Work Study ($2,500 maximum) This is a work program awarded to high need recipients. Students work on campus for a maximum of ten hours per week.
• Stafford Direct Loan Program (Subsidized and Unsubsidized) ($250 to $12,500) This loan program is federally funded and offers a competitive interest rate.
• Perkins Loan ($200 to $4,000) This low-interest loan program is federally funded. Funds are limited. Lakeland University selects high-need recipients.
• PLUS Loan (Variable) This loan is available from the federal government for parents of dependent students.

State of Wisconsin

• Wisconsin Grant ($1,000 to $2,900) may be offered to Wisconsin residents who attend Wisconsin private colleges such as Lakeland University. Funds for this program are limited. Students are strongly advised to meet the February 1st FAFSA priority filing date; however, the date can change pending on the number of applicants from the state.
• Talent Incentive Program (TIP) ($250 to $1,800) Designated to assist low income, disadvantaged students. A maximum grant of $1,800 is available to qualified first-time freshmen. It is renewable based upon an amount determined by the state.
• Indian Student Assistance Grant ($250 to $1,100) may be offered to Wisconsin residents of Native American descent who have completed the Indian Student Assistance Grant Application.
• Minority Undergraduate Retention Grant ($250 to $2,500) A candidate for this grant may be nominated by the Office of Financial Aid if he/she qualifies as a minority student.
• Hearing & Visually Handicapped Student Grant ($250 to $1,800) may be offered to Wisconsin residents who have severe, profound hearing or visual impairment and who have completed the Hearing & Visually Handicapped Student Grant Application.
• Academic Excellence Scholarship (up to $2,250, half from the state, half from the university) For students who have the highest high school GPA of their graduating class.
• Wisconsin Covenant Scholars Grant ($250 to $1,500) For students who signed the Wisconsin Covenant pledge and have fulfilled the requirements of the pledge.
• Wisconsin Covenant Foundation Grant ($1,000 to $1,500) For students who signed the Wisconsin Covenant pledge, have fulfilled the requirements of the pledge and whose EFC (Expected Family Contribution) calculated by the Free Application for Federal Aid (FAFSA) is within the measure as determined by the Wisconsin Covenant Foundation.

Lakeland University

• Grants (Variable) The University offers grants based on a combination of the student’s financial need, as defined by the federal government; the student’s academic ability; and the university’s awarding policy.
• Endowed Scholarships (Variable) Awarded in accordance with the donors’ criteria to students who have completed the Lakeland University Financial Aid Application by February 1st.

Scholarships

Lakeland University offers various academic scholarships. See the Financial Aid and Scholarship Brochure to review the eligibility requirements necessary to receive a scholarship upon entry to the university. All renewals of scholarships for the award year are based on the student’s cumulative GPA after the fall term of the prior academic year. Combined Lakeland funding will not exceed 75% of full-time tuition (excluding full-tuition scholarships).

The following scholarships are only available to freshmen at the point of entry to Lakeland University:

• Presidential Scholarship ($12,000 per year, renewable) Requires a 3.0 Lakeland University GPA in order to maintain.
• Dean’s Scholarship ($9,000 per year, renewable) Requires a 3.0 Lakeland University GPA in order to maintain.
• Achievement Scholarship ($8,000 per year, renewable) Requires a 2.5 Lakeland University GPA in order to maintain.
• Success Scholarship ($5,000 per year, renewable) Requires a 2.0 Lakeland University GPA in order to maintain.

Note: A student may receive only one of the scholarships listed above.

Specialty Scholarships:

• J. Garland Schilcutt Scholarship (Full-tuition) Awarded to a qualified business major. Requirements include: a 3.0 high school GPA, a score of 24 or better on the ACT, and the submission of a special application form. This scholarship may not be combined with other Lakeland University scholarships and grants. Federal and State grants must be applied to this scholarship award.^
• Sheboygan County Scholars Scholarship Program (Full-tuition) Awarded to four qualified students from Sheboygan County or graduated from a Sheboygan County high school. Requirements include: a 3.5 high school GPA, a score of 27 or better on the ACT and the submission of a special application form. This scholarship is not to be combined with other Lakeland University scholarships or grants. Federal and State grants must be applied to the scholarship award.
• UCC Pastor’s Scholarship ($1,500 per year) Available for members of United Church of Christ congregations.
• Lakeland University Referral Scholarship ($500, non-renewable) Awarded during a student’s senior year of high school upon receipt of referral.  Referral deadline is February 1st.
• The Helen Boatwright Music Scholarship ($500-$3,000 per year, renewable) Granted to students interested in music. An on-campus audition is required each year. Students must participate in a band or choral group at Lakeland.+
• András Viski Piano Scholarship ($2,000 per year, renewable) Renewal based upon fulfillment of specific criteria as set forth by Lakeland music faculty.+
• Academic Major Scholarships of $2,000 per year are offered in the following majors: Biochemistry, Biology, Communication, Computer Science, Chemistry, Education, English, Exercise Science, Graphic Design, History, Hospitality Management, Mathematics, Religion, Spanish, Studio Art and Writing. Requirements to apply include a 3.0 high school GPA and a score of 21 or better on the ACT. Renewable. Application deadline of January 16.
• The Seeker Scholarship of $1,000 is for those students who have not decided what academic major to pursue. The same academic requirements apply to The Seeker Scholarship as to the Academic Major Scholarships. Renewable. Application deadline of January 16.
• An Honors Program Scholarship of $1,000 is offered to those students accepted into the Lakeland University Honors Program, yet who do not receive a major scholarship. Renewable with continued participation in the Honors Program.
• Lakeland University Leadership Scholarship ($500-$5000) Open to new full-time freshmen demonstrating leadership and/or altruism. Supplemental materials and interview required. Renewable. Application deadline of January 16.

Transfer Student Academic Scholarships:

• PTK Scholarship A $12,000 annual award is offered to transfer students who are members of the Phi Theta Kappa (a junior college honor society). Awarded in lieu of the transfer academic scholarships listed below. Renewable with a 3.0 Lakeland University GPA.

Students who have attended previous colleges or universities may be eligible for an academic scholarship based upon their combined cumulative GPA as follows:
