Major Requirements (39 semester hours)

For English and Language Arts Education Certification (grades 4-12)

One of the following:

Majors must also complete nine (9) additional semester hours from the courses below, of which six (6) must be ENG designated and of which three (3) must be numbered 300 or above.

Any additional English (ENG) courses offered (not already used to satisfy emphasis area requirements)
CRW 215 - Fiction Writing
CRW 220 - Poetry Writing
CRW 240 - Nonfiction Writing
ENG 190 - Approaching Literature (second topic)
WRT 300 - Advanced Composition (WI)

English Education Majors must complete the following emphasis:

Teacher Preparation Emphasis (12 semester hours):

English Education majors follow the Interdisciplinary Studies requirements for Education Majors.

ENG 200 - Exploring World Literature
ENG 230 - Young Adult Literature
ENG 260 - The Art of Film
OR ENG 275 - The Art of Comics
Any other ENG course 300-level or higher
OR WRT 300 - Advanced Composition (WI)

Teacher Certification

To qualify for English and Language Arts Education (4-12) Teacher Certification, a student must complete the courses listed above, the Middle and High School Education Professional Sequence, and the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction’s (DPI) statutory requirements.
