Students who have successfully completed a B.A. in Sport Management and Leadership from Lakeland University should be able to:
- Explain the major concepts in the functional areas of sport management, leadership, sport marketing, and facilities management.
- Construct and present effective oral and written forms of professional communication.
- Identify the key legal and ethical issues related to contemporary sport management conduct.
- Identify guidelines relative to diversity and inclusion in the sport industry.
- Demonstrate content knowledge as it pertains to the sport industry.
- Demonstrate personal characteristics such as motivation, maturity, judgment and adaptability as they pertain to the sport industry.

Major Requirements (49-60 semester hours)
Nine (9) semester hours from the following:
Students must select and successfully complete one of the following emphases:
- Students completing an available internship course as part of their emphasis should complete a minimum of three (3) semester hours of this course.
- HSP 407 - Hospitality Internship requires four (4) semester hours
Athletic Administration (12 semester hours)
A student is not eligible to choose this emphasis if also completing a Management emphasis.
Athletic Coaching (12 semester hours)
One of the following (2 semester hours):
Communication (12 semester hours)
Cooperative Education (22-27 semester hours)
*Only available to Sport Management and Leadership majors.
Hospitality Management (12-14 semester hours)
A student is not eligible to complete this emphasis if also completing a major in Hospitality Management.
Nonprofit Management (12-13 semester hours)
Courses for this emphasis schedule through the Kellett School.
Retail Management (15-16 semester hours)
Sales Management (12-13 semester hours)
Strength and Conditioning (20 semester hours)
Student Designed (12 semester hours)
Students may propose a twelve (12) semester-hour emphasis in an area of academic interest that complements their major in the J. Garland Schilcutt School of Business, Science and Technology. Students may fulfill the emphasis requirement by completing current courses offered by the Division of Business and Technology, courses offered in other Divisions, cooperative design courses, or internship experiences that are relevant to the area of interest. This emphasis plan must be approved in advance by the student’s academic advisor and the Chair of the Business and Technology Division. Cooperative Education courses may not be used to satisfy the requirements of this emphasis.

Notes:
- A student completing a major in Sport Management and Leadership is not eligible to earn a major in Business Administration or Organizational Management with a Sport Management or Management emphasis. The student may complete a major in Business Administration or Organizational Management with a different emphasis.
- A student completing a major in Sport Management and Leadership is not eligible to complete the Management emphasis for another Business major. The student may complete a different emphasis.
- A student completing a major in Sport Management and Leadership is not eligible to earn a minor in Cooperative Education.*
- A student is not eligible to complete Cooperative Education emphasis requirements of other majors.
- Students pursuing two or more Business majors requiring completion of an emphasis must select a separate emphasis area for each major, mindful of any emphasis restrictions.
