Major Requirements (42 semester hours)

For Early Adolescence through Adolescence Education Certification (grades 6-12)

One of the following:

Majors must also complete nine (9) additional semester hours form the courses below, of which six (6) must be ENG designated and of which three (3) must be numbered 300 or above.

Any additional English (ENG) courses offered (not already used to satisfy emphasis area requirements)
CRW 215 - Fiction Writing
CRW 220 - Poetry Writing
CRW 240 - Nonfiction Writing
ENG 190 - Approaching Literature (second topic)
WRT 300 - Advanced Composition (WI)

English Education Majors must complete the following emphasis:

Teacher Preparation Emphasis (12-13 semester hours):

ENG 200 - Exploring World Literature
ENG 230 - Young Adult Literature
ENG 260 - The Art of Film or ENG 275 - The Art of Comics
ENG 365 - Writing Tutoring (Tutor Training) (0-1 semester hour)
Any other ENG course at 300-level or higher; or WRT 300 - Advanced Composition (WI)

English Education majors follow the Interdisciplinary Studies requirements for Early Adolescence through Adolescence Education (Middle/Secondary Education) Major.

Teacher Certification

To qualify for Early Adolescence through Adolescence (grades 6-12) teaching certification, a student must complete the courses listed above, the Early Adolescence through Adolescence Professional Sequence , and the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction’s (DPI) statutory requirements.
