Sport Management and Leadership, B.A.

Students who have successfully completed a B.A. in Sport Management and Leadership from Lakeland University should be able to:

  • Explain the major concepts in the functional areas of sport management, leadership, sport marketing, and facilities management.
  • Construct and present effective oral and written forms of professional communication.
  • Identify the key legal and ethical issues related to contemporary sport management conduct.
  • Identify guidelines relative to diversity and inclusion in the sport industry.
  • Demonstrate content knowledge as it pertains to the sport industry.
  • Demonstrate personal characteristics such as motivation, maturity, judgment and adaptability as they pertain to the sport industry.

Nine (9) semester hours from the following:


Students must select and successfully complete one of the following emphases:


Athletic Administration (12 semester hours)


A student is not eligible to choose this emphasis if also completing a Management emphasis.

Hospitality Management (12-14 semester hours)


A student is not eligible to add this emphasis to a major in Hospitality Management. However, the student may add this emphasis to other Business and Entrepreneurship majors.

Nonprofit Management (12-13 semester hours)


Main campus (traditional) students should note all courses for this emphasis are offered through the Evening, Weekend, and Online program.

Notes:


  • A student completing a major in Sport Management and Leadership is not eligible to earn a major in Business Administration with a Sport Management emphasis. The student may complete a major in Business Administration with a different emphasis.
  • A student completing a major in Sport Management and Leadership with an Athletic Administration emphasis is not eligible to complete the Management emphasis for another Business and Entrepreneurship major. The student may complete a different emphasis.
  • Students pursuing two or more Business and Entrepreneurship majors requiring completion of an emphasis must select a separate empasis area for each major. See restrictions in the Business and Entrepreneurship: Emphasis Areas  chart and in individual programs.
  • Students are eligible to complete more than one emphasis (excluding Sport Management) for a single major.
