Science Minor


Students who have successfully completed the appropriate professional sequence in Education and a minor in Science–Life and Environmental Emphasis from Lakeland University should be able to:

  • Demonstrate understanding of the central concepts, tools of inquiry, and structures of the disciplines they teach.
  • Create learning experiences that make these aspects of subject matter meaningful for students (Knowledge) – including the ability to demonstrate understanding sufficient to teach science to students (ages 10-21) in the following areas:
    • Science classroom safety standards, practices, and procedures.
    • The interconnectedness of science, science connections.
    • Science as inquiry.
    • Physical science including physics and chemistry.
    • Life science including biology and environmental science.
    • Earth and space science.
    • Science and technology.
    • Science in personal and social perspectives.
    • History and nature of science.

Note:


  • A student completing a minor in Science is not eligible to earn a major in Biochemistry, Biology or Chemistry.

Teacher Certification:


To qualify for teaching certification at the Middle Childhood through Early Adolescence level (grades 1-8), a student must complete the Middle Childhood through Early Adolescence Major/Professional Sequence, the courses listed above, and the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction’s (DPI) statutory requirements.
