Students who have successfully completed the professional sequence in Education and a B.A. in Broad Field Social Studies from Lakeland University should be able to:
- Demonstrate proficiency with central concepts, tools of inquiry, and structures of the disciplines within the social sciences.
- Demonstrate knowledge and skill with the content and methodologies of the disciplines identified within the Wisconsin Model Academic Standards for the Social Studies.
- Demonstrate proficiency in teaching a broad set of social science disciplines to students between the ages of 10-21.

Major Requirements (54 Semester Hours)
For Early Adolescence through Adolescence Education Certification (grades 6-12) Additional Requirements:
- Nine (9) additional semester hours in history (HIS) numbered 300 or above
- Three (3) additional semester hours in history (HIS) numbered 400 or above
- Fifteen (15) semester hours of electives from at least two (2) other social science disciplines - six (6) of which must be numbered 300 or above: anthropology (ANT), economics (ECN), political science (POL), psychology (PSY), and sociology (SOC), excluding cross-listed education/psychology courses.
Teacher Certification
To qualify for Early Adolescence through Adolescence (grades 6-12) teaching certification, a student must complete the courses listed above, the Early Adolescence through Adolescence Professional Sequence, and the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction’s (DPI) statutory requirements.
