Management Information Systems

Like most sectors, the financial and business world relies heavily upon computers and networking in its continued operation. Today, many common financial tasks such as filing taxes and applying for loans or credit cards are completely computerized. Students who complete majors in Management Information Systems (MIS) are the ones behind the scenes of these financial systems ensuring their continued working health. They study both the technology of business and its use, bringing a solution-oriented vision to companies hoping to compete in the global marketplace or streamline operations. They are effective communicators and team leaders, able to analyze situations and design technological solutions to improve an organization’s effectiveness.

The MIS major at Lakeland appeals to students who are interested in analytics and solving business problems using technology. MIS majors may begin careers in programming, but go on to provide leadership in the areas of applications development, systems analysis and design, data and predictive analytics, and project management.
