MUS 455 - Student Teaching in Music Education (12 semester hours) Semester Hours: 12 Students have an opportunity to teach classes under the supervision of both University faculty and cooperating teachers from area middle and high schools. Student teaching is a full-day, full-semester experience (approximately 18 weeks of student teaching) which follows the semester calendar of the cooperating schools. The classroom teaching experience is supplemented by required seminar sessions addressing the development of the professional portfolio and other topics relevant to the student teaching experience.
Pre-requisites: One semester prior to registering for student teaching, a student must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0, have been accepted into the Education Program, and have received consent of the Director of the Center for Teacher Excellence. Completion of the Middle and High School (4-12) Major/Professional Sequence, a passing score on the relevant Praxis content test (if applicable), completion of academic major and minor areas, satisfactory completion of the Benchmark II Portfolio, and completion of the application process for student teaching must be accomplished prior to the student teaching semester. Must be taken concurrently with EDU 470 Student Teaching Seminar (2 semester hours) .
