CN 752 - Psychopharmacology for CounselorsSemester Hours: 3 The purpose of this course is to introduce students to psychotherapeutic drugs and how they are used to treat various mental disorders. At the outset, the course presents the basic structures of the nervous system necessary to understand the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of psychoactive drugs. Many psychoactive drugs are used for therapeutic purposes. Other psychoactive drugs, even those prescribed for therapeutic purposes, become the objects of addiction. The major classes of drugs used for therapeutic purposes: antidepressants, anxiolytics, antipsychotics, mood stabilizers, and stimulants as well as the actions, side effects, and risks will be considered.
Pre-requisites: CN 718 - Introduction to Psychopathology .
