BIO 245 - Gateway to Sustainability

Semester Hours: 3
This course examines the fundamental incompatibility of increasing human population in combination with increasing per capita resource consumption on a finite planet, with sustaining the biosphere of that planet. This course is designed to introduce students to the scientific concepts associated with sustainability and the cyclical nature of biological, geological, and chemical systems on Earth. Students successfully completing the course will be conversant in the language and concepts of sustainability, and will be equipped for further coursework associated with sustainable practices.

Pre-requisites: BIO 101 - Environmental Science (4 semester hours)  OR BIO 111 - Life Sciences I (4 semester hours)  OR CHM 131 - General Chemistry I (4 semester hours)  OR CHM 200 - Earth Systems (4 semester hours) .

Offered: Fall, odd years.
