Lakeland University participates in federal and state student financial aid programs for which its students are eligible. Students who are uncertain about their eligibility for any federal or state aid program should contact the Financial Aid and Educational Funding Office. The offer of federal and state financial aid funds is contingent upon timely completion of all relevant application and financial status forms including the submission of student and parental income tax documents from the most recent tax year.
In addition to federal and state aid, the university sponsors a number of its own programs which are coordinated with and are used to supplement the federal and state programs. A student’s individual financial aid from all financial aid grant and scholarship programs administered by the university (excluding the Talent Incentive Program (TIP)) will not exceed the cost of tuition. Sources of Financial Aid
Federal Government
- Pell Grant ($649 to $6,495) Amount is based on need.
- Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG) ($200 to $1,000) Amount is based on need.
- Federal Work Study ($3,600 maximum) This is a work program awarded to high need recipients. Students work on campus for a maximum of fifteen hours per week.
- Direct Loan Program (Subsidized and Unsubsidized) ($200 to $12,500) This loan program is federally funded and offers a competitive interest rate.
- PLUS Loan (Variable) This loan is available from the federal government for parents of dependent students.
State of Wisconsin
- Wisconsin Grant ($1,000 to $3,650) May be offered to Wisconsin residents who attend Wisconsin private colleges such as Lakeland University. Funds for this program are limited. Students are strongly advised to meet the February 1st FAFSA priority filing date; however, the date can change pending on the number of applicants from the state.
- Talent Incentive Program (TIP) ($250 to $1,800) Designated to assist low income, disadvantaged students, a maximum grant of $1,800 is available to qualified first-time freshmen. It is renewable based upon an amount determined by the state.
- Indian Student Assistance Grant ($250 to $1,100) May be offered to Wisconsin residents of Native American descent who have completed the Indian Student Assistance Grant Application.
- Minority Undergraduate Retention Grant ($250 to $2,500) A candidate for this grant may be nominated by the Financial Aid and Educational Funding Office if he/she qualifies as a minority student.
- Hearing & Visually Handicapped Student Grant ($250 to $1,800) May be offered to Wisconsin residents who have severe, profound hearing or visual impairment and who have completed the Hearing & Visually Handicapped Student Grant Application.
- Academic Excellence Scholarship (up to $2,250, half from the state, half from the university) For students who have the highest high school GPA of their graduating class.
Lakeland University
- Grants (Variable) The University offers grants based on a combination of the student’s financial need, as defined by the federal government; the student’s academic ability; and the university’s packaging policy.
- Endowed Scholarships (Variable) Packaged in accordance with the donors’ criteria to students who have completed the Lakeland University Financial Aid Application by February 1st.
Scholarships
Lakeland University offers various academic scholarships. See the Financial Aid and Scholarship Brochure to review the eligibility requirements necessary to receive a scholarship upon entry to the university. All renewals of scholarships for the academic year are based on the student’s cumulative GPA after the fall term of the prior academic year. Combined Lakeland funding will not exceed 75% of full-time tuition (excluding full-tuition scholarships).
The following scholarships are only available to freshmen at the point of entry to Lakeland University:
- Presidential Scholarship ($16,000 per year, renewable) Requires a 3.0 Lakeland University GPA in order to maintain.
- Dean’s Scholarship ($14,000 per year, renewable) Requires a 3.0 Lakeland University GPA in order to maintain.
- Achievement Scholarship ($12,000 per year, renewable) Requires a 2.5 Lakeland University GPA in order to maintain.
- Success Scholarship ($10,000 per year, renewable) Requires a 2.0 Lakeland University GPA in order to maintain.
Note: A student may receive only one of the scholarships listed above.
Specialty Scholarships:
- Sheboygan County Scholars Scholarship Program (Full-tuition) Awarded to four qualified students from Sheboygan County or graduated from a Sheboygan County high school. Requirements include: a 3.5 high school GPA, a score of 27 or better on the ACT and the submission of a special application form. This scholarship is not to be combined with other Lakeland University scholarships or grants. Federal and State grants must be applied to the scholarship award.
- School of Science, Technology and Education (range from $500 to full-tuition) Biochemistry (B.S.), Biology (B.S.), Broad Field Science, Chemistry (B.S.), Computer Science (B.S.), Criminal Justice, Education, Exercise Science (B.S.), Industrial Systems Analytics, Management Information Systems, Mathematics, Pre-Nursing and Psychology. - School of Humanities and Fine Arts (range from $500 to full-tuition) Broad Field Social Studies, Communication, Creative Writing (B.F.A.), English, Graphic Design, History, Music, Music Education, Music Performance, Religion, Spanish, Studio Art and Writing. Application deadline applies.
- J. Garland Schilcutt School of Business and Entrepreneurship Scholarship (range from $500 to full-tuition) Accounting, Business Administration, Food Safety & Quality, Hospitality Management, Management Information Systems, Marketing, Specialized Administration and Sport Management and Leadership. Application deadline applies.
- Ulrich Scholarship ($20,000) Ten renewable scholarships of $20,000 are available for new students eager to explore the intersection of faith, reason, and justice. Students must declare and maintain satisfactory academic progress towards a minor or major in religion and participate in programming of the Ulrich Center for Philosophy, Ethics, and Christian Thought. Applicants with cumulative unweighted GPA over a 3.2 and a composite ACT score of 23 or greater (or 1130 SAT) will be granted priority consideration. *Ulrich Scholarships will replace academic, school-specific, leadership, and Co-op scholarships.
- Col Yong Chue Yang Scholarship of $15,000 is offered to students who are descendants of families who were displaced by the Vietnam Conflict. This scholarship cannot be combined with any academic scholarships. Open to new, full-time freshmen or transfer students.
- Co-op Scholarships ($2,000 to $4,000) For new students entering the Co-op Majors or Co-op Minor. Students interview with the Cooperative Education & Career Readiness Office. This scholarship replaces academic and school sponsored scholarships.
- The Helen Boatwright Music Scholarship ($500-$3,000 per year, renewable) Granted to students interested in music. An on-campus audition is required each year. Students must participate in a band or choral group at Lakeland.+
- András Viski Piano Scholarship ($1,000-$3,000 per year, renewable) Renewal based upon fulfillment of specific criteria as set forth by Lakeland music faculty.+
- Lakeland University Service and Leadership Scholarship ($1,000-$3,000) Open to new full-time freshmen demonstrating leadership and/or altruism. Supplemental materials and interview required. Renewable. Application deadline applies.
- Esports Scholarship ($1,000-$3,000) Open to new, full-time freshman or transfer students. Esports Head Coach may recommend scholarship amounts by observing try-outs, reviews of film, combines, tournaments, or season matchplay, as well as in-person or virtual campus visits. Renewable. Application deadline applies.
Transfer Student Academic Scholarships:
- PTK Scholarship A $2,000 annual scholarship is offered to transfer students who are members of the Phi Theta Kappa (a junior college honor society). Packaged in lieu of the transfer academic scholarships listed below. Renewable with a 3.0 Lakeland University GPA.
- Students who have attended previous colleges or universities may be eligible for an academic scholarship based upon their combined cumulative GPA as follows:
