Sample Four-Year Plan of Study 2020-2021
The following are sample plans of course requirements to complete the English major in four years or eight semesters.
- Each student’s experience will vary slightly, as this plan does not include transfer work or credit for prior learning (such as Advanced Placement-AP).
- Math, English, and Reading placement is based on the student’s ACT/SAT scores or placement tests.
- If fundamental courses are required, they should be taken within the first year.
NOTE: Four-year plans assume the student is prepared to take the courses listed. If prerequisites are required, additional semester hours may be required to complete the degree.

English Major
*Complete three (3) additional ENG-designated courses (9 semester hours). One of which must be numbered 300 or above. One alternate version of ENG 190 and the following creative writing courses can count towards this requirement: WRT 215 , WRT 220 , WRT 240 .
** English majors must complete one of the following emphases (12 semester hours): Literature and Global Culture, Professional Writing and Pedagogy, or Working with Text and Image.
English Major with a Cooperative Education Minor
*Complete three (3) additional ENG-designated courses (9 semester hours). One of which must be numbered 300 or above. One alternate version of ENG 190 and the following creative writing courses can count towards this requirement: WRT 215 , WRT 220 , WRT 240 .
