Degree and Major/Minor/Emphasis Restrictions


Degree Restrictions

  • Same major/New Degree designation: Students are not eligible for a second degree if the degree designation of a previously earned major has changed since completion of major.
    • Example: Earned a B.A. in Computer Science, is not eligible to return to earn a B.S. in Computer Science.
  • Major, Minor or Emphasis in Same Program: Students may not complete a major, minor or emphasis in the same subject simultaneously. 
    • Example: Student with declared Major in Hospitality Management is not eligible to earn the emphasis in Hospitality Management of a degree where this emphasis is available.
  • Previously Earned Emphasis or Minor: Students can return to complete coursework to earn a major in a program in which they previously completed an emphasis or minor.

Major/Minor/Emphasis Restrictions

ACCOUNTING Major:
  • A student completing a major in Accounting is not eligible to earn a minor in Business Administration.
  • Students completing a major in Accounting have the option of pursuing an emphasis to supplement their major coursework.
BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION Major:
  • Students pursuing two or more Business and Entrepreneurship majors requiring completion of an emphasis must select a separate emphasis area for each major.
  • Students are eligible to complete more than one emphasis for a single major.
BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION Minor:
  • A student completing a minor in Business Administration is not eligible to earn a major in Accounting, Business Administration, Marketing, or Management Information Systems.
BUSINESS AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP Emphasis Areas:
  • Business Economics: A student is not eligible to choose this emphasis if completing a minor in Economics.
  • Hospitality Management: A student is not eligible to choose this emphasis if completing a major in Hospitality Management.
COMPUTER SCIENCE Major:
  • A student completing a major in Computer Science is not eligible to earn a major in Management Information Systems.
COMPUTER SCIENCE Minor:
  • A student completing a minor in Computer Science is not eligible to earn a major in Management Information Systems.
ECONOMICS Minor:
  • A student completing a minor in Economics is not eligible to choose the Business Economics emphasis in completion of a Business and Entrepreneurship major.
HOSPITALITY MANAGEMENT Major:
  • A student completing a major in Hospitality Management is not eligible to earn a major in Business Administration with a Hospitality Management emphasis. The student may complete a major in Business Administration with a different emphasis.
  • A student completing a major in Hospitality Management is not eligible to earn a minor in Business Administration.
MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEMS Major:
  • A student completing a major in Management Information Systems is not eligible to earn a major or minor in Computer Science.
  • A student completing a major in Management Information Systems is not eligible to earn a minor in Business Administration.
  • Students completing a major in Management Information Systems have the option of pursuing an emphasis to supplement their major coursework.
MARKETING Major:
  • A student completing a major in Marketing is not eligible to earn a minor in Business Administration.
  • Students pursuing two or more Business and Entrepreneurship majors requiring completion of an emphasis must select a separate emphasis area for each major.
  • Students are eligible to complete more than one emphasis for a single major.
SPECIALIZED ADMINISTRATION Major:
  • Students pursuing two or more Business and Entrepreneurship majors requiring completion of an emphasis must select a separate emphasis area for each major.
  • Students are eligible to complete more than one emphasis for a single major.
